Alloy 400 is a nickel-copper alloy (approx. 67% Ni – 23% Cu) that is resistant to seawater and steam at high temperatures as well as to salt and caustic solutions. It is a solid-solution alloy that can be hardened only by cold working. It’s wide used in marine applications and other nox-oxidizing chloride solutions. This nickel alloy is particularly resistant to hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids when they are de-aerated. As would be expected from its high copper content, alloy 400 is rapidly attacked by nitric acid and ammonia systems.

Characteristics:

  •     Resistance to seawater and steam at high temperatures
  •     Excellent resistance to many corrosive environments
  •     High strength and toughness over a wide temperature range
  •     Particularly resistant to stress corrosion cracking
  •     High resistance to alkalis and alkaline salt

Market applications:

  •    Marine engineering
  •    Chemical and hydrocarbon processing equipment
  •    Steam generators
  •    Heat exchanges
  •    Control lines
