Specification: ASTM B 523
ASME SB 523

Maximum service temperature: 550°C / 1020°F

Zirconium 702 is a commercially pure zirconium, well known for its immunity to stress corrosion cracking and its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Zirconium is a reactive metal that has a high affinity for oxygen resulting in the formation of a protective oxide layer at room temperature. A heat treating process enhanced this oxide layer, which serves as an excellent bouncing surface against a variety of corrosions in certain aggressive environments. The zirconium is used in applications where even the best stainless steels and nickel alloys are not sufficiently corrosion resistant.

Characteristics:

  • Excellent corrosion resistance to organic and mineral acids
  • Good ductility even at cryogenic temperatures
  • Very good resistance to corrosion in strong alkalis
  • High strength capability
  • Low thermal conductivity

Market applications:

  •    Chemical engineering
  •    (Nuclear) power plants
  •    Cooling system parts
  •    Heat exchanges
  •    Automotive components
