Calculation of tube weight

How to calculate the weight of tubes

The weight of tube is easily calculated. Simply multiply the appropriate alloy density by the calculation shown
below of the required part.

Weight  = ( D – T )  x T x 0.02504

= diameter
T = wall thickness

Conversion factor for stainless steel = 0.02504
For other alloys: divide the result by 8 ( the specific weight of stainless steel ) and multiply by the specific weight of the requested alloy. (see below chart)
For imperial weight calculations certain measurements (fractions) need to be converted to decimal inches. For an accurate calculation it is also important to allow for the tolerances on diameter and wall thickness as defined by the manufacturing specification. Please contact us for details.
The following chart gives the density/weight of some of the common alloys that are available. Please contact us for details of our full product range and current stock availability.
